Privacy Policy
Announced: 2 November 2026 · Effective: 9 November 2026
DeepDive Labs (Korean name: 딥다이브랩; the "Company") has established and publishes this Privacy Policy in accordance with Korea's Personal Information Protection Act and Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, and other applicable laws, including Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (the "APPI") for users in Japan, in order to protect Users' personal information and to handle related complaints promptly and smoothly.
Where your data is stored: The Company is based in the Republic of Korea, and Users' personal information is stored mainly on servers in the Republic of Korea (Seoul). It may also be processed by the US-based service providers listed in "5. Outsourcing of Personal Information Processing." See "Cross-Border Transfers" in Section 5 for details.
1. Personal Information We Collect and How We Collect It
Information collected at sign-up
The Company collects the following personal information to provide the Service.
| Category | Items collected |
|---|---|
| Required | Email address, nickname, profile photo, gender, date of birth |
| Social login (Google) | Email address, name, profile photo |
| Social login (Kakao) | Email address, nickname, profile photo |
| Social login (Apple) | Email address, name |
| Optional | Self-introduction, region, interests, MBTI, how you heard about us |
- The Company does not collect religion or other sensitive information (as defined in Korea's Personal Information Protection Act, and "special care-required personal information" under the APPI). However, the comparison of the face on the ID document with a selfie in age verification with an ID document for members living outside Korea may count as sensitive information, so it is carried out only with separate consent (see "Age verification with an ID document for members living outside Korea" below).
Information processed during identity verification
To confirm that Users are 19 or older and to keep to one account per person, the Company asks members for identity verification starting with app version 1.37.0. Verification is done through KG Inicis Co., Ltd.'s integrated authentication (private certificates such as PASS, Toss and financial certificates), and Korea PortOne Co., Ltd. passes the result to the Company.
| Category | Items | Kept by the Company? |
|---|---|---|
| Received and kept by the Company | Date of birth, gender | Kept (used for the age and gender shown in your profile) |
| Received, converted and kept by the Company | Connecting Information (CI) | The original value is not kept; only a value converted in a way that cannot be reversed is kept (to check for duplicate sign-ups by the same person) |
| Checked by the verification provider | Name, mobile phone number, carrier, etc. | Passes through the Company's server while the result is received, but is not stored |
| Kept by the Company | Verification number (a number the provider issues for each verification) | Kept. Used only to ask the provider to confirm identity when an investigative authority requests it following legal procedures or when needed to handle a damage report |
- The date of birth and gender confirmed by verification are reflected in your profile, and you cannot change them yourself afterwards.
- If you have difficulty with identity verification, contact us through [Contact Us] in the app or by email and we will explain how to verify.
Age verification with an ID document for members living outside Korea
This section applies from the time this check is made available in the app (the same content will be added to the Korean original when the check becomes available).
Members who live outside Korea and cannot use the identity verification above (Korean mobile phone or certificate) are asked to verify with a photo of an ID document and a selfie showing a gesture specified on screen, to confirm that they are 19 or older and to keep to one account per person. For users in Japan, this check also serves as the age verification required by Japan's Act on Regulation on Soliciting Children by Using Opposite Sex Introducing Service on Internet.
| Category | Items | Kept by the Company? |
|---|---|---|
| Taken and sent by the User | Photo of an ID document (passport, My Number card, driver's license or residence card, with the holder's photo visible), selfie showing the specified gesture | Stored in the Company's private storage and deleted within the periods below |
| Read from the photo and kept | Date of birth, gender (only if printed on the document), issuing country, type of document | Kept (used for age verification and for the age and gender shown in your profile) |
| Read from the photo, converted and kept | Name | The name itself is not kept; only a value converted from the name, date of birth and issuing country in a way that cannot be reversed is kept (to check for duplicate sign-ups by the same person) |
| Created and kept during the check | Face similarity score (result of comparing the ID photo with the selfie, a number from 0 to 100), result of the check and reasons, a summary of the AI assessment (without the name), time of the check | Kept |
- You may cover parts of the ID document other than the date of birth, name and issuing authority (such as your address and document number) with a finger or paper when taking the photo.
- How it is processed: AI from OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA) reads the text on the ID document (date of birth, gender, issuing country, type and name) and checks whether the selfie shows the specified gesture. A face comparison service from Amazon Web Services, Inc. (Amazon Rekognition, Seoul region) compares the face in the selfie with the photo on the ID document to check that they are the same person.
- If the check cannot be completed automatically (for example, the photo is unclear or the face similarity is low), a Company administrator looks at the photos directly and approves or rejects the check. Even when the check passes automatically, an administrator may review the photos afterwards. The photos are never shown to other members.
- Because face comparison may count as sensitive information, we ask for separate consent before the check. You don't have to agree, but if you don't, you won't be able to use features that need an age check (such as sending voices).
- The date of birth and gender read during the check are reflected in your profile in the same way as with the identity verification above. If the document does not show gender, the gender in your profile is used.
- Deleting the photos: the photos are deleted when an administrator approves or rejects the check, when a retake is required, or when an administrator has reviewed an automatically passed check. In all other cases they are deleted no later than 7 days after they are sent (deletion runs automatically every hour). Photos from a check that expired without being submitted are deleted within 1 hour.
Information collected automatically while you use the Service
- Device information: device type, OS version, a device identifier the app creates when it first runs (we do not collect the phone's hardware serial or IMEI), push tokens (for general notifications and incoming-call notifications)
- Usage information: service usage records, app version, last access time
- App settings: app language (Korean, Japanese or English) and device time zone (offset from Coordinated Universal Time, in minutes). Used to send notifications in your app language and to avoid sending notifications scheduled for a fixed time (for example, 9 p.m.) to Users whose time zone differs greatly from Korea's. Only you and the Company's servers can see this; it is not shown to other members
- Access records: your IP address and access time are automatically kept in the access logs of our server provider (Supabase) when you log in or connect to the server. They are not stored in your profile or other member data, and are used only to check for fraudulent use and to meet legal obligations (retention: "login records" in Section 3)
- Analytics information: service usage statistics through Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics
- Advertising information: advertising identifier for ad delivery (the advertising ID on Android devices; the IDFA on iOS devices only if you have allowed app tracking), ad impression and click records
- Ad measurement information: records that an app install or launch, sign-up completion, first voice sent or a payment (including the amount) took place, together with the advertising identifier and device information at that time (to count how many Users who came from Meta ads signed up or paid)
Personalized advertising
To keep free features running, the Company shows Google AdMob ads in the app. Google may use the advertising information above to show ads that match your interests (personalized ads).
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Items collected | Advertising identifier, ad impression and click records, device information |
| How collected | Automatically, through the in-app ad SDK (Google AdMob) |
| Purpose | Serving personalized ads, measuring ad performance, preventing fraudulent clicks |
| Retention | Until the outsourcing contract ends (according to Google's retention standards) |
- On iOS, the IDFA is used only if you choose "Allow" the first time the app asks whether it may track you. If you do not allow it, you can still use every feature of the app in the same way, and the ads you see will be general ads unrelated to your interests.
- To measure the results of ads the Company runs on Meta (Instagram and Facebook), the Meta SDK in the app sends the "ad measurement information" above to Meta Platforms, Inc. We do not send names, phone numbers, conversation content or voices. If you have not allowed tracking on iOS, counting is done only as grouped statistics without an advertising identifier that could identify you.
- To opt out of personalized ads, change the setting on your device as follows.
- iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking > turn off Dailying
- Android: Settings > Google > Ads > Delete advertising ID (or "Opt out of Ads Personalization")
Information collected through device permissions
To provide Dailying's core features, we ask for access to the following device permissions. We access each permission only with your explicit consent, and you can still use features that do not need a permission if you decline it.
| Permission | Purpose | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | Voice chat and voice calls | Required to use voice features |
| Photo library | Uploading a profile photo, attaching images in the community | Optional |
| Notifications (push) | Message notifications, incoming-call notifications, service announcements | Optional |
| App tracking permission (iOS) | Personalized ads (see "Personalized advertising" above) | Optional |
Voice data
| Type | Stored? | Retention period |
|---|---|---|
| 1:1 voice conversations | Stored on servers (AWS S3, Seoul region) | Kept while the chat room exists, up to 3 years. Deleted when the chat room is deleted or the member deletes their account |
| Voice posts (New Voices, Topics, Missions, Ideal Type World Cup, etc.) | Stored on servers (AWS S3, Seoul region) | Deleted when the author deletes them or deletes their account. Shown in the in-app New Voices list for up to 3 months after posting; voices submitted to Topics, Missions and the Ideal Type World Cup are visible to other Users in the app while that feature is running |
| Voice calls | Processed by real-time streaming | Not stored; discarded when the call ends |
- Voice data is kept on servers to provide the Service (playback).
- When a member deletes their account, their voice data is deleted after the period set out in Section 3.
- After the in-app display period ends, voice files remain on servers for the retention period above. Content posted on official social media follows "Use on Official Social Media and in Promotion" below.
Use on Official Social Media and in Promotion (optional consent)
Only if you give separate consent when taking part in Balance Talk, the Ideal Type World Cup or Voice Missions will we feature your voice on the Company's official social media accounts and in promotional content.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| What | The voice you submitted to the feature you consented for, and what you said |
| How | Edited and posted on Dailying's official social media accounts (Instagram, YouTube, etc.) and in promotional content |
| Who can see it | Because these are official social media posts, people who are not Dailying members can also see them |
| What we never include | Your real name, contact details or profile photo |
| How long | Featured content stays on our official accounts with no set end date. We will take it down at any time on request, whether or not you have deleted your account |
| Withdrawing consent | You can turn this off at any time in the app under [Settings → Privacy → Social media use consent]; voices you leave after that will not be featured. To have content that has already been featured taken down, let us know through [Contact Us] |
- Declining has no effect on sign-up or your use of other features.
Automatic safety check for New Voices and voice templates
To protect Users from inappropriate content (sexual content, violence or threats, hate, scams or requests for personal information, spam), New Voices, which are shown to other Users, and voice templates for first greetings are checked automatically when they are posted. Voices exchanged in 1:1 chat rooms are not automatically checked when they are sent (except as described under "Voice-to-text conversion for operations and safety" below).
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Processor | OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA) |
| Data sent | The voice file being checked |
| Method | The voice is converted to text and its risk level is assessed |
| What the Company stores | The risk level and category. For New Voices, the converted text is also kept in the Company's database and can be viewed by administrators. The first part of the text (up to 40 characters) may also be shown as a preview to the User who receives that New Voice, and the text is shown as subtitles to Users who can listen to that New Voice (see subtitles under "Translation features" below). Text from voice templates is not stored |
| Purpose of using the text | Reviewing safety check results, operational support, providing subtitles and their translations, and service improvement (statistical analysis of which voices lead to conversations). Analysis results are used only as statistics that cannot identify individuals |
| Text retention | For as long as the New Voice is kept. Deleted together when the author deletes the New Voice or deletes their account |
| Retention by OpenAI | OpenAI does not use API input data to train its models and does not keep it except for abuse monitoring |
| How results are used | New Voices with a high risk level may not be shown to other Users, and voice templates with a high risk level cannot be used |
Voice → caption (text) conversion (optional feature)
When you share a voice message externally as a video, the voice file is sent to OpenAI's speech recognition (Whisper) API and converted to text only if you turn on the "Add captions" option yourself.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Processor | OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA) |
| Data sent | The voice file to be converted |
| Purpose | Converting the voice to text (captions) |
| Legal basis | Your explicit consent (turning on the captions option) |
| Retention by OpenAI | OpenAI does not use API input data to train its models and does not keep it except for abuse monitoring. |
| Conversion result | Cached only on your own device (up to 30 days); not stored on the Company's servers. |
If you do not turn on the captions option, your voice is not sent to OpenAI.
Chat voice → text conversion ("View as text," optional feature)
A voice message is sent to OpenAI's speech recognition API and converted to text when you tap the [View as text] button next to it in a chat room, and in chat rooms where the other person speaks a language different from your app language. If the original language differs from your app language, the text is also translated into your app language and shown with it.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Processor | OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA) |
| Data processed | Chat voice messages you sent or received for which you tapped [View as text]. In chat rooms with a different language, the other person's recent voice messages (up to 20) are converted and translated automatically |
| Purpose | Showing voice messages as text, for example when it is hard to play sound; translating them so you can talk with people who use a different language |
| Legal basis | Your request (tapping the button) and provision of the messaging service (including conversations with people who use a different language) |
| Retention by OpenAI | OpenAI does not use API input data to train its models and does not keep it except for abuse monitoring. |
| Conversion result | The text and translation are stored only on your own device, encrypted per account (up to 30 days, not included in device backups, deleted when you delete your account). The text and translation are not stored on the Company's servers; only the number of uses per day is recorded to prevent abuse. |
If you do not tap the button and the chat room is not one with a different language, chat voices are not sent to OpenAI, and the other person is not told that you viewed a message as text. The other person's language is judged from the characters in their nickname and bio and the language of their previously converted voices.
Translation features (nicknames, bios, New Voice subtitles)
Because Users may use different app languages (Korean, Japanese or English), when the viewer's app language differs from the language of the original text, the items below are sent to OpenAI for translation. Only text is sent, not voice files (translation of chat voices follows "View as text" above).
| Item | Nicknames and bios | New Voice subtitles |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA) | OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA) |
| What is sent | Nickname, bio | The transcript of the New Voice (the text converted in "Automatic safety check" above) |
| When it is sent | When another User views that nickname or bio in a profile or list and the viewer's app language differs from the language of the text | When a User of the Japanese or English app listens to that New Voice |
| What is created | How to read the nickname and what it means; translation of the bio | Translated subtitles (Japanese, English) |
| Stored by the Company | The translation is stored in the Company's database and shown again to other Users with the same language who view the same text. Members cannot retrieve the stored content themselves | The translation is stored in the Company's database and shown again to other Users with the same language who listen to the same New Voice. Members cannot retrieve the stored content themselves |
| Retention | Deleted when the nickname or bio is changed or deleted with the account, unless another member uses the same text | Deleted when the transcript is deleted (the author deletes the New Voice, or it is deleted with the account). If the transcript is corrected, the old translation is no longer shown and is replaced with a new one |
| Retention by OpenAI | OpenAI does not use API input data to train its models and does not keep it except for abuse monitoring | Same |
- New Voice subtitles: the transcript is shown as subtitles to Users who can listen to that New Voice (except where they cannot listen because of blocking, reporting, account deletion, usage restrictions, etc.). Subtitles are not shown for New Voices whose risk assessment is not finished or whose risk level is high. Listeners can turn subtitles off in the app.
- No translation is done when the app language and the language of the text are the same (nothing is sent when Korean nicknames, bios or New Voices are viewed in the Korean app).
- The number of translations per day is recorded to prevent abuse.
Voice-to-text conversion for operations and safety
Where necessary for operating the Service and keeping it safe (handling reports, reviewing public voices, managing the quality of the conversation service), voices may be sent to OpenAI and converted to text.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Processor | OpenAI, L.L.C. (USA) |
| Items processed | Reported voices (for 1:1 chat rooms, voices sent by the reported User), publicly submitted voices such as Balance Talk, Voice Missions and the Ideal Type World Cup, and other voices needed for operations and safety |
| Purpose | Checking reports and deciding on restrictions (AI first summarizes whether rules were broken; administrators make the final decision), reviewing public voices, managing service quality |
| Conversion result | Viewed only by administrators; not shown to other Users |
| Retention | For as long as the voice is kept. Deleted together when the voice is deleted or the member deletes their account |
| Retention by OpenAI | OpenAI does not use API input data to train its models and does not keep it except for abuse monitoring |
2. Purposes of Collection and Use
| Purpose | Details |
|---|---|
| Member management | Sign-up, identity verification (confirming age 19 or older, one account per person, preventing re-registration by restricted members; for members living outside Korea, a check with an ID document and selfie, which also serves as the age verification required by Japan's online dating site regulation act), preventing fraudulent use, keeping records for dispute resolution |
| Providing the Service | Voice chat, voice calls, anonymous sharing of everyday moments, community features, New Voice subtitles and translation of nicknames, bios and voices (communication between Users who use different languages) |
| Matching Users | Connecting Users for voice communication (recommending people based on gender, region, interests, etc.) |
| Improving the Service | Analyzing usage statistics (including analysis of conversation connections using New Voice text), developing new features, fixing bugs |
| Customer support | Responding to inquiries, delivering announcements, sending push notifications (matched to your app language and device time zone) |
| Promotion (optional consent) | Featuring the voices of consenting Users on official social media and in promotional content |
| Keeping the Service safe | Automatic safety checks for inappropriate content, detecting abuse, restricting use |
| Paid services | Managing Cookie (points) payment and usage history, processing refunds |
3. Retention Period
As a rule, the Company deletes personal information without delay once the purpose of collection and use has been achieved. However, where retention is required by law, the information is kept for the periods below.
| Records retained | Period | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Records of contracts or withdrawal of offers | 5 years | Korea's Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce |
| Records of payment and supply of goods | 5 years | Korea's Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce |
| Records of consumer complaints or dispute handling | 3 years | Korea's Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce |
| Login records | 3 months | Korea's Protection of Communications Secrets Act |
Because the Company is a Korean business, these Korean retention periods also apply to the information of users outside Korea.
When you delete your account:
- Your data is kept for 30 days so the account can be restored; if you log in again during this period, the deletion is cancelled. During this period your profile and posts are not visible to other Users.
- After 30 days, your personal information and voice data are deleted.
- Content featured on official social media is not deleted automatically when you delete your account. You can ask us to take it down at any time, before or after deleting your account (Section 1, "Use on Official Social Media and in Promotion").
- Records that must be kept by law (such as payment records, in the table above) are stored separately from other information for the required period and then deleted.
- App language and device time zone are deleted when the account is deleted. Translations are kept for the periods in "Translation features" in Section 1.
- Messages from a deleted member that remain in chat rooms with other Users are replaced with "This message is from a user who has left," and the voice is deleted.
Identity verification information:
- Date of birth and gender are kept and deleted together with member information.
- The converted CI value is kept while the membership continues, and is deleted together with the account when the member deletes their account.
- However, if a member who is under a usage restriction (suspension) deletes their account, only the converted value is kept until the restriction period ends to prevent re-registration, and is deleted without delay after that.
- Verification attempt records (verification number, result, time) are deleted after 90 days. However, a verification number from a successful verification is kept while the membership continues and is deleted together with the account when the member deletes their account.
- If a member who has been reported or has ever been placed under a usage restriction (suspension) deletes their account, only the verification number is kept for 1 year from the date the account is deleted, to respond to damage reports and requests from investigative authorities, and is then deleted without delay.
Information from age verification with an ID document (members living outside Korea):
- ID document photos and selfies are deleted after the check as described in Section 1, "Age verification with an ID document for members living outside Korea," and in any case no later than 7 days after they are sent.
- The date of birth, gender, issuing country and type of document read from the photo, the face similarity score, and the result and time of the check are kept while the membership continues, and are deleted without delay when the member deletes their account.
- The value converted from the name and the check records are kept and deleted on the same basis as the converted CI value and the verification attempt records above.
4. Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties
As a rule, the Company does not provide Users' personal information to outside parties, except:
- where the User has consented in advance; or
- where required by law, or where an investigative authority requests it for an investigation following the procedures and methods set by law.
For users in Japan, outsourcing processing to the overseas service providers listed in Section 5 counts as "provision to a third party in a foreign country" under Article 28 of the APPI; the information required by that Article is set out in Section 5.

For users in Japan (information under Article 28 of the APPI)
The personal information of users in Japan is handled by businesses in the following countries.
| Country | Businesses handling the data | Personal information protection system in that country |
|---|---|---|
| Republic of Korea | The Company (DeepDive Labs); Amazon Web Services, Inc. (Seoul region, including face comparison in age verification with an ID document); Supabase, Inc. (database in the AWS Seoul region); KG Inicis Co., Ltd. and Korea PortOne Co., Ltd. (identity verification, for users in Korea) | The Personal Information Protection Act comprehensively governs the handling of personal information and is overseen by the Personal Information Protection Commission. It contains obligations corresponding to the eight OECD Privacy Guidelines principles |
| USA | OpenAI, L.L.C.; Agora, Inc.; Google LLC; Apple Inc.; Meta Platforms, Inc.; Vercel Inc.; Supabase, Inc.; Amazon Web Services, Inc. | There is no comprehensive federal privacy law; personal information is governed by sector-specific federal laws and state laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act). Some of the eight OECD principles may not be covered |
| Other countries | Agora, Inc. (countries where relay servers are located) | Relay servers are chosen automatically for each call based on proximity to the users, so the countries cannot be specified |
- Measures taken by the recipients to protect personal information: each provider's terms of service and data processing agreement require secure handling of personal information and prohibit use for other purposes.
You may refuse cross-border transfers.
- Automatic safety checks, voice calls and notifications are necessary to provide the Service, so if you refuse, you cannot use those features.
- Caption conversion is not transferred unless you turn on the captions option.
- Chat voice-to-text conversion and translation are not transferred unless you tap [View as text] or are in a chat room with a different language.
- Translation of nicknames, bios and New Voice subtitles is necessary to provide the Service to Users who use different languages, and is not transferred when the viewer's app language and the language of the text are the same.
- ID document photos and selfies are transferred only when a member living outside Korea takes the age verification with an ID document. If you do not take the check, you won't be able to use features that need an age check (such as sending voices).
- Notifications (Google, Apple) are not transferred if you turn notifications off in your device settings, and you will not receive notifications.
- Ads (Google) and ad measurement (Meta) can be refused using the methods in "Personalized advertising" in Section 1 (turning off iOS tracking, deleting the Android advertising ID). The app works the same either way.
- To refuse any other cross-border transfer or to ask for processing to stop, write to support@dailying.kr. If you refuse processing that is essential to providing the Service or keeping it safe, use of the related feature may be limited.
6. Rights of Users and Legal Guardians and How to Exercise Them
Users (or their legal guardians) may at any time:
- request access to their personal information (including records of provision to third parties);
- request correction of errors;
- request deletion;
- request suspension of processing (including suspension of use or of provision to third parties); and
- withdraw consent: you can withdraw consent by deleting your account in the app under Settings > Account.
You can exercise these rights through the in-app settings or by email (support@dailying.kr), and the Company will act on your request without delay. We may ask you to verify your identity when you make a request. Fees for access requests: free of charge.
7. Procedure and Method of Destruction
When personal information is no longer needed, for example because the retention period has passed or the purpose of processing has been achieved, the Company destroys it without delay.
- Electronic files: deleted using technical methods that make recovery or reproduction impossible
- Paper documents: shredded or incinerated
8. Security Measures
The Company takes the following measures to keep Users' personal information secure.
- Encryption: important information such as authentication data is encrypted when stored and managed
- Access control: access rights to personal information processing systems are managed and restricted. 1:1 conversations can be viewed only by the participants and authorized administrators
- Secure transmission: data in transit is encrypted with SSL/TLS
- Security software installed and checked regularly
Understanding the external environment: The Company handles personal information in the Republic of Korea and outsources processing to businesses in the United States. It takes security measures based on an understanding of the personal information protection systems of those countries (see the table in Section 5).
9. Users Under 19
The Company does not allow people under 19 to sign up (this applies regardless of country or region of residence). Age is checked using the date of birth entered at sign-up and the identity verification result (for members living outside Korea, the result of age verification with an ID document) (a User may use the Service from their 19th birthday in Korean time). If identity verification shows that a User is under 19, the account is not deleted, but sending voices, replying, calling, posting in the community and payments are restricted, and the restriction is lifted automatically on the day the User turns 19. The User can delete their account at any time during this period.
10. Privacy Officer (Contact)
The Company has designated the following Privacy Officer to protect Users' personal information and handle related complaints.
- Privacy Officer: Youngdong Cho (조영동)
